Tēnā koutou katoa,
It is a privilege to lead Taita Central School, Te Kura o Nga Hau e Wha and to work with a committed team of staff, tamariki and whānau/aiga.
At Taita Central School we believe strong partnerships between whānau and staff help us work together to encourage, inspire and create independent life-long learners which is vital for improving educational outcomes for all. Where our tamariki are valued, empowered as active participants in learning, and are at the centre of everything we do. Our Staff are committed to providing a rich and creative classroom teaching and learning programme and they genuinely care for the children they teach. They show this by meeting the needs of our tamariki and providing an environment where children’s learning and development in academic, cultural, physical, social and emotional areas are supported.
We aim to ensure all our tamariki experience success; not just in an academic sense but also culturally, physically and socially.
The future for which we are preparing our tamariki is ever changing. Our teachers are here to teach our tamariki and empower them with the skills, attitude and values they will need to prepare for the challenges and stresses of an ever-changing world.
At Taita Central School we have strong values that we live by, which encourage our tamariki to give it a go and keep trying, especially when it gets hard, to always be the best that you can be and come together as one as we work towards achieving our vision ‘Developing independent life-long learners.’
POWER values: Perseverance, Outstanding Excellence, Whakawhanaungatanga, Empathy and Respect.
We value the input of parents, whānau and aiga and recognise the whole family as an important partner in our school community. We welcome and act upon feedback quickly to ensure all tamariki are happy and safe at school. Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or feedback.
I hope this website provides you with useful information to get a better understanding about our school. If you would like to know more or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a visit and we will happily show you around.
'We want our kura to be a place where children feel safe and happy, where they are engaged, curious, excited and eager to learn.'

Ki ngā whānau o Taitā Central School
This week we are celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) with a range of activities throughout the week. On Friday 20th September we will finish our week with a sharing assembly and a shared kai. If you are able, please send a plate of food per whānau for our shared lunch. Any food containing nuts, pork or dairy must be labelled clearly so that our tamariki with dietary restrictions can participate safely. (Please note, our normal school lunches will also still be available on this day.)
Whānau are welcome to join us for this. The assembly will be at 11:30am and the lunch at 12:30pm.
Ngā mihi,
Taitā Central School Staff.
Kia Ora e te whānau,
Next Tuesday 17th September we would like to invite all our whānau/Aiga and Tamariki to join us for a Whānau evening to share information with you about the Te Ara Whakamana Mana Enhancement Programme which we have been learning about.
Our plan for the evening is to gather together and share Kai in Pohutukawa Block, before your tamariki head over to Kowhai Block to be supervised by some of our staff and parents, caregivers, whānau and aiga head over to the Whareroa/Hall to work with Whaea Shell, Matua Dylan and members of the Te Ara Whakamana Team.
"Through the process of co-construction, Te Ara Whakamana provides a culturally centred framework for a strengths-based conversation that explores the way in which we face and respond to life’s challenges. A person’s mana, (core value, prestige, authority, control, power, pride, influence, status, spiritual power, talents, uniqueness, charisma etc), and the mana of the family, becomes the focus point from which all actions and deeds are measured."
Te Ara Whakamana becomes a reference point from which to set future goals, self monitor, measure progress and outcomes and collect and analyse data, all from a strengths perspective. Analysis of the model accommodates the views of the individual and their whānau alongside the professional’s, which is more likely to uncover important aspects which otherwise may have been neglected or overlooked.
The process encourages our tamariki to share their experiences, gain understanding of their feelings and emotions, be able to share and articulate their responses and explore mana enhancing strategies to solve problems.
