OUR STUDENTS / TATOU AKONGA
"Developing Independent Life-Long Learners"
Our students are proud of who they are and where they come from. They have a sense of pride in our school and demonstrate our school values. When you enter our school, you will feel our warmth, our sense of whakawhanaungatanga, and our heart.
Our students are organized into three teams across the school. Kowhai Team is for our Year 0-2 students, Matai is for our Year 3-4 students and our Year 5-6 students are in Pohutukawa. As students move through our school they grow in confidence, independence and have greater leadership opportunities for themselves and in representing our school.
On Friday’s we have whanau groups where the children are grouped with family members and students across the age ranges. Here, the senior students lead our whanau groups learning te reo, waiata, karakia and tikanga. Teachers learn alongside the students. A great example of tuakana/teina, reciprocal learning.
Leadership opportunities include being a member of Road Patrol and looking after the safety of younger students crossing the road, Refs – where students organize and referee games at lunchtimes, running a school assembly, being a learning buddy to the junior students to name a few.
