Our Students

"Ako tahi Tātou, Tipu tahi Tātou, Together we Learn, Together we Grow"

Our students are proud of who they are and where they come from. They have a sense of pride in our school and demonstrate our school values. When you enter our school, you will feel our warmth, our sense of whakawhanaungatanga, and our heart.

Our students are organized into two teams across the school. Kowhai Block is for our Year 0-3 ākonga/students, and our Year 4, 5 & 6 ākonga/students are in Pohutukawa Block. As students move through our school they grow in confidence, independence and have greater leadership opportunities for themselves and in representing our school."

On Tuesday afternoons we have Tuakana/Teina - Buddy Time. Here, the senior students lead our whanau groups learning te reo, waiata, karakia and tikanga, reading together, or arts and crafts. Teachers learn alongside the students. A great example of Tuakana/Teina, and reciprocal learning.

Usually once a term we have a Whānau Day where our ākonga/students are grouped in whānau groups, this is where the children are grouped with family members and students across the age ranges and they come together to celebrate special days such as Samoan Language Day and matariki.

Leadership opportunities at Taitā central School include being a member of Road Patrol and looking after the safety of younger students crossing the road, Breakfast Club Helpers, Sports leaders – where students organize and referee games at lunchtimes, running a school assembly, and being a learning buddy to the junior students to name a few.
